Star Wars is a pop culture phenomena that is everywhere, no matter how you try to escape it. As a fan of the old canon, now called Star Wars Legend, I am now embarking on watching/reading/playing the new Star Wars Canon Timeline.
I adore the Star Wars world and the story told within the original trilogies, and wanted more all the time. Thanks to my husband I had consumed more than the movies as he introduced me to the books, the now called Legends Timeline.
In those books I watched (*SPOILERS FOR THE LEGENDS TIMELINE*) Luke marry Mara Jade and have a son named Ben. I followed as Leia and Han had Jaina and Jacen Solo, the twins, and then Anakin Solo and how their uncle Luke trained them. I followed as Anakin died during the Swarm War and watched Jacen became Darth Caedus. I watched as Jaina train under her aunt Mara and become a Jedi and a pilot with the Rogue Squadron. And watched as she reached out to, one of my favorite characters, Boba Fett to help train her in taking her twin brother down.(*SPOILERS END*)
These were stories I was hoping would get introduced into the Star Wars Cinematic realm when Disney bought it, but it, like many other stories others held dear, got scrapped and replaced with the new trilogy and a completely new world/timeline. I will not lie and say that I love the new trilogy, I have many issues with it, in a wasted character potential way. I had so much hope for Finn’s character and Rey’s but was let down, and we’ll talk about that in a later post as I progress in this challenge and consume the media.
While I have my issues with the way Disney has taken the reigns on the future of Star Wars my husband pointed out I also wouldn’t have some of my favorite things. Rogue One, the story about the rebels, the regular people, not Jedi’s, fighting for the rebellion (and against each other) for what was right and getting the plans of the Death Star to Leia. One of my favorite movies and cast of characters would not exist if Disney had not taken reigns. My favorite character Boba Fett was brought back in the well made Mandalorian series. It would be wrong of me to say that I don’t enjoy the new content that Disney is producing for the Star Wars Universe.
So I will be embarking on the journey that is the new Star Wars Canon Timeline and will be doing it based off this comprehensive timeline https://starwarscanontimeline.com/
I have already watched a lot of these and read some of the books on this list but I will be re reading /re watching them when they come up next on the timeline. I will be documenting my thoughts as I go through this journey of reading/playing/watching the new canon.
Starting with the first book in this timeline, The High Republic : Light of the Jedi, which thankfully my local indie bookstore had on hand.
So here we go.
